Plum Village France Capital Campaign Manager

Full-time - Hybrid

Overview

The Plum Village France (PVF) Capital Campaign Manager will be responsible for planning and project management of their multi-million-euro international capital campaign. The Manager will coordinate with a team of staff, contractors, and volunteers, working closely with monastics at Plum Village France. The Manager will also have a portfolio of donors and prospective donors.

As Plum Village France has a special place in our international community, practitioners from around the world have historically offered donations for its support. This capital campaign, already underway, continues that tradition.

This position is managed by the Global Giving Director. The Manager directly supervises two team members and coordinates the work of others on the Foundation team to realize the capital campaign’s goals. They will work closely with monastics and lay friends at Plum Village France.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management and Planning (50%)

  • Create an operating plan for the next phase of the campaign

  • Monitor progress and recommend course corrections to achieve the campaign plan’s deliverables and metrics on schedule; utilize TNHF project management software

  • Organize and run internal campaign-related meetings

  • Working with the Finance team, to manage the project budget and forecast anticipated revenue

  • Working with the Communications team, manage the design, approval, and production of campaign materials (digital, print)

  • Working with the Communications team, develop a multi-faceted internal communications plan for the Campaign

  • Be the point of contact for the status of campaign activities

  • Establish and manage systems for tracking in-kind donations and non-monetary contributions to the campaign

  • Ensure alignment between campaign activities and Plum Village’s broader capital and operational priorities

Major Gifts (30%)

  • Coordinating with other team members, identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major individual donors for the campaign.

  • Utilizing a relationship management system, manage a portfolio of major individual gift prospects and donors

  • Personal solicit gifts from individuals, and support others in doing so

  • Work with monastic elders and high-level volunteers on donor engagement

  • Coordinate campaign-related visits, including site tours for major donors and stakeholders

  • Track donor pledges and coordinate pledge reminders with the Finance and Development teams

Supervision and Coordination (10%)

  • Supervise campaign staff and contractors

  • Coordinate campaign-related tasks across the Foundation’s team

  • Establish clear workflows and accountability for all campaign-related team members

  • Ensure seamless collaboration between the campaign team at Plum Village and existing fundraising efforts (e.g., unrestricted giving, and other funding streams)

  • Facilitate cross-team knowledge sharing by documenting best practices and lessons learned from the campaign

  • Public Speaking and Community Engagement (10%)

  • Deliver clear and compassionate presentations that effectively communicate the community’s vision and needs to large, diverse audiences.

  • Serve as a committed steward for the campaign, actively engaging the community, cultivating relationships, and strategically connecting individuals in service of advancing the shared vision

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • An interest in being a part of the Thich Nhat Hanh Plum Village tradition, having received or being interested in the Five Mindfulness Trainings (or 14 Mindfulness Trainings) is a plus but not required.

  • Ability to work skillfully and harmoniously with the monastic community as well as a diverse range of people, including lay practitioners, donors, and partners from various backgrounds

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • At least 7 years of professional fundraising experience, including having worked on a capital campaign and delivering successful fundraising campaigns

  • Sound knowledge of fundraising principles and practices

  • Demonstrated previous success in securing significant gifts from individuals

  • Strong project management skills; ability to design, implement, and direct multiple projects, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability

  • Able to think strategically and anticipate, and creatively solve problems

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Fully proficient with Microsoft Office, G/Google Suite, and comfortable regularly learning new applications

  • Must demonstrate the ability to be culturally competent in all respects; able to work in a multi-lingual, international environment

Language Skills

  • Oral and written fluency in English is required. French language proficiency is a plus.

LOCATIONS

This is a remote position with ample time at Plum Village Monastery in France. A regular presence at the monastery is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility in availability required: 1) Must be available to work with colleagues across time zones in France and both US coasts, and 2) may need to attend events or call donors in the evenings or weekends

  • Travel will be required. Need to be able to work during mindfulness retreats at the monastery, which sometimes span weekends.

COMPENSATION AND HOURS

Pay: Regular full-time salaried employee. The salary in 2025 will be from $55,000 to $65,000 with some flexibility for experience.

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

The Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation (the “Foundation”) is the fundraising arm and a communications hub of the International Plum Village Community. The Foundation was established in 2011 by Thich Nhat Hanh, Sister Chan Khong, and other senior monastics to raise funds for the continuation of Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings. The Foundation, the three US monasteries, and Parallax Press, comprise one 501c3 charitable nonprofit in the US: the Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism, Inc. (PVCEB). 

Headquartered in the US, the Foundation is led by an Executive Director, has a small international team of professional lay staff, and a volunteer advisory board of monastic and lay practitioners. The Foundation raises approximately $5 million annually and has a monthly donor program, annual, major, and legacy donors. It is also responsible for communications and Dharma sharing to the community. The Foundation also works with local lay committees to support the capital campaigns of monasteries in the Plum Village tradition.
